1950-1959
William Dunn, Eve '50, an accountant, writes, "I finally retired
this year after tax season." Morgan and his wife, Martha, live in
the town of Lebanon, Ohio.
Warren Joslyn, Eng '50, was
retired from Boeing for 12 years and then was asked to return and work
part time. He writes, "It seems the 'stress men' are hard to find.
The aero class of 1950 has scheduled a reunion in Winter Park, Colo."
Joslyn also has built and flown his own airplane. He lives in Kent, Wash.
Donald McMillan, Ed '50, recently
retired as a bartender for the Medi-Club, the Academy of Medicine's private
club for doctors in Cincinnati. He also is the first coach to be inducted
into Taylor High School's Hall of Fame. McMillan lives in Cleves, Ohio.
Donald Sortman, Eng '50, is
enjoying his retirement. He sold his manufacturing representative business
to his son and now designs electrical control systems on his computer
for the business. He is a past-president of the Rotary Club in Centerville
and past-commander of the VFW Centerville Post. Sortman and his wife,
Louise, live in Dayton, and have six children and 19 grandchildren.
Richard Bernard, Eng '52,
retired as a senior executive for the United States Department of Defense
in 1985 after serving 30 years, and he worked another 10 years for GTE
as a senior program manager. He continues to consult for both organizations.
Bernard's wife, Nancy, attended UC and their daughters, Ann Maris Bernard
Cook, DAAP '78, and Jane Bernard Boyd, BusAd '80, are UC graduates. The
Bernards live in Silver Spring, Md.
Maryanne Grant Dedekind, CCM
'53, is a retired music teacher who continues to have student and adult
recitals. She lives in Allentown, Pa.
James McDevitt, BusAd '53,
received the gold and silver medals for free-style swimming, backstroke
and breaststroke in the Senior Olympics Southwest Ohio Region, Senior
Olympics Ohio State and Roy Lagaly Invitational last year. He jokes, "I'm
all wet." McDevitt and his wife, Shirley, live in Cincinnati.
Charles Hickey, Eve '53, keeps
busy with his yearly travel tours. He enjoys visiting his children, maintaining
his garden and monitoring his security portfolio. Hickey and his wife,
Anna, live in Baton Rouge, La.
Robert Merritt, MA (A&S)
'53, has been a member in the American Chemical Society for 50 years and
is a chemist at Chemical Abstracts Service in Columbus, Ohio. He and his
wife, Joy, live in Columbus.
Fred Dickman, Eng '55, retired
from State University of New York at Stony Brook and now enjoys life as
a snowbird, spending summers in upstate New York and winters in Sarasota,
Fla. He and his wife, JoAnn Brannaman Dickman, Nur '57, live in Ballston
Lake, N.Y.
Robert Greiwe, DAAP '55, retired
as an interior designer and is now busy playing tennis, skiing, painting
and selling his book, "Life On Thin Ice," about funny school
stories in the '40s and '50s. He and his wife, Kay, live in Cincinnati.
John Meister, BusAd '55, retired
from Merck-Kelco in 1994 and writes, "I now live in The Villages
in Florida, a golf-cart community just this side of heaven."
Robert Felix, A&S '56, JD '59, is the co-author of "American
Conflicts Law." He was recently reappointed as James P. Mozingo III
Professor of Legal Research at the University of South Carolina. Felix
and his wife, Judith, live in Columbia, S.C.
Carl Schmidt, Eng '59, retired
in 1995 from General Electric Aircraft Engines in Cincinnati. He now volunteers
as a reading tutor for "Hosts" (Help One Student Succeed), a
reading program at Pleasant Ridge Elementary School. Schmidt advises other
retirees to volunteer for the program or other tutoring programs in the
local schools. He lives in Cincinnati.
Leonard Stolar, BusAd '59,
is a full-time musician and recently released a solo piano CD entitled,
"Stream of Consciousness." He writes, "I still work with
Mary Ellen Tanner. She plays cuts from my CD on her radio show on WMKV
every Sunday from 1-2 p.m." Stolar lives in Cincinnati.
Shirley Duquette Walton, Ed
'59, is retired and living on the Pacific Coast in Gualala, Calif. She
enjoys walking her dog, swimming twice a week and working in the medical
auxiliary group. Her new activity is Tai Chai, which she enjoys, particularly
after a career in physical education.
